First Risk Olympics - History

First Risk Olympics is a worldwide competition for derivatives professionals. It consists of multiple choice questions designed to test and develop risk intuition. All questions can be answered intuitively; you don't need to be a rocket scientist to play or win. Heat1 was transmitted by facsimile unannounced to thousands of derivatives professionals simultaneously worldwide on 16 July 1996. The game also appeared on this website at that time. Players had three days to submit answers. Hundreds of players responded. Thousands more played but were too shy to submit their answers.

Winners were judged on the number of correct answers and the speed of their response. The correct answers usually appeared obvious to most professionals - however the obvious was often wrong!

Names of the highest scoring individuals appear on the First Risk Olympics internet site honour list at the previous winners section.

The questions were developed by Ralph McKay author of Risk Mechanics, Financial derivatives: finding and fixing risk holes. Published by Ristek.

First Risk Olympics is promoted by Ristek. This game is not connected in any way with the activities of the IOC (International Olympic Committee) or SOCOG.

Play old heats

While it is too late to compete to win any of the earlier heats, you can still play them - anonymously if you prefer - and receive an immediate score. If you leave your contact details you will be advised of upcoming heats. You may also request the response sheet providing correct answers with explanations and player statistics.

Apart from announcement of winners, responses will be treated on a strictly confidential basis and statistical information only will be published.
